The EGD4cities program is inspired by existing initiatives, with the aim of implementing a general concept and approach to green human capital and a green economy that refers to the broader approach to sustainability, introducing skills related to the transition to a cyclical and greener economy. The project aims to improve the green skills required for the workforce by improving its technical skills, knowledge, values ​​and attitudes to develop and support sustainable social, economic and environmental outcomes in business, industry and community. In particular, this program aims to provide training material for local government staff on how to implement the Europe Green Agreement locally and to respect the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 13 "Take urgent action to combat Climate change and its effects ", Objective 11" Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable ", as well as related objectives of other SDGs. There will also be a pilot training seminar on testing and adaptations of developed material.

In general, the program is intended to involve local authorities who are responsible for a variety of environmental services related to noise or air pollution, waste disposal, consumer education and protection or urban planning that directly affect the health of local citizens. and have an impact on the environment.

The specific objective of the program is to facilitate local government staff and NGO leaders to commit to change, to develop green sectoral skills and to promote leadership skills, creativity, socio-educational and professional development, through the action of Local Authorities and NGOs. Its specific objectives are to help these target groups be informed about science and policy at EU level, as well as to strengthen their capacity in various sustainability-related areas by improving and expanding the provision of high quality learning opportunities for adults, in the perspective of lifelong learning. EGD4cities will develop an Evaluation Methodology for the development / creation of local policies of the European Green Agreement (IO1) in order to strengthen the role of local government staff in assisting with climate change. A "Transformative Mindset Course on EGD4cities" (IO2) will also be set up by the consortium to increase and deepen the knowledge and skills of local government staff working in decision-making positions on how to withstand climate change local level.

In addition, "Peer to Peer Success Stories" (IO3) videos will play an important role in the implementation of the program as they will motivate the target group, encourage them to change attitudes and adopt a new mentality, inspire individuals and organizations participate in and encourage sustainable behaviors.

As a final action, the consortium aims to develop a "Virtual Think Tank" (IO4) where information and resources on environmental actions at local level and training opportunities will be shared, in order to increase the capacity and skills of stakeholders to handle each individual request for assistance and advice in the field of environment and climate change.

 As a result, the program is expected to create clear and tangible benefits for all stakeholders, supporting a sustainable improvement of their core leadership and citizenship skills and competences, green actions and social change for the environment, regions and local communities. In addition, EGD4cities will promote the well-being of citizens by providing a coherent response to the challenges facing the environmental sector by complementing and adding value to existing initiatives. The consortium states that the EGD4cities project will have an international and local impact on social cohesion, integration and inclusion, with benefits and more opportunities for all.
